Billie (Danny) Byrd

Billie (Danny) Byrd passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and caregivers on April 30, 2017 to be free with the Spirits. Danny was adopted as a child by Pastor Ferman and Cora Wachendorf. In 1961 he married Karen Bestor and together had a family with five daughters, Lori Gilbertson, Tammi Alexander, Diane Kienast, Becki Wachendorf, and Sheri Terpstra.

At the age of 19, he served the United States Air Force where he began his love of airplanes and ham radios. Danny enjoyed ham radios, playing music, horses and flying airplanes. Later in life, he found peace in Spirituality and his daughters. Danny’s careers included aviation mechanic, television repair, and inventor.

Danny is survived by his five daughters, Lori Gilbertson, Tammi Alexander, Diane Kienast, Becki Wachendorf, and Sheri Terpstra, along with 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his natural and adopted parents, special friend Cathy, and one great-grandchild.

Special thanks to the loving staff at Martha’s Place, Princeton, WI, and Generations Hospice Care for the wonderful care and attention they gave him to make his stay and transition to his next life more comfortable.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

My condolences to the entire family. I knew Billie several years down here in Melbourne, Florida. He was quite a character and a gem of a man. I am so happy he was reunited with his HUGE family in his later years and was able to enjoy them all. May his spirit rest in peace.
