James was born August 13, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter J. and Genevieve (Campbell) Kreten. He was a veteran of Korean War, serving in the Navy. James married Philomena Welch on April 08, 1961 in Chicago, IL. They made their home in Chicago, IL before moving to Lake in the Hills, IL. James worked as a letter carrier for the USPS for 32 years. James and Philomena retired to Friendship, WI in 1993.
James enjoyed traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, working summers in the Dells, and reading.
James was a Gold Star Dad, served as a trustee on the Adams County Library Board, and was a member of the Adams VFW Post #6279, and the American Legion Post 1231 in Lake in the Hills, IL.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Genevieve Kreten; and son, Airman Joseph P. Kreten.

Daughter: Patrice (Tony) Gulbrandsen of McHenry, IL
Brother: Jerome (Grace) Kreten of Chicago, IL
Grandsons: Mark, Randy, Justin, & Drake
Cousin: Bonnie Lindbloom
Cousin: Dee-Dee Parks
Niece: Kelly
Nephew: Peter

I’m so very sorry to hear about Jim, Phil. It was always so nice to see the two of you at the library. Jim ALWAYS had a great big smile on his face and a kind (and usually funny!) word for everyone. We will truly miss him! Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.
