Lila Oakes
Lila Oakes, age 89, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. John Krebs will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, September 11th, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be at Mt. Repose Cemetery at a later date.
Lila was born March 4, 1933 in Springville Township, Adams County, Wisconsin to Lee and Ethel (Fuller) Bork. She graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1950. After high school, Lila moved to Chicago and was employed by Butler Paper Company. She married Edward Oakes on October 12, 1955 in Adams, Wisconsin. They moved to Friendship in 1957. Lila retired from M&I Bank after 31 years of employment.
Lila was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Moundview Hospital & Clinic Auxiliary since 1995, and the Moundview Golf Course.
Lila enjoyed golfing and bowled for many years in several area leagues, enjoyed card playing and “Mexican Train”, and was known by friends as “Lucky Lila.”
Lila was preceded in death by her parents: Lee and Ethel Bork; husband, Edward; son, Roger; sister, Rita Robertson; brother, Howard Bork; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Bork, Arlene Oakes, and Rose Oakes; brothers-in-law: James Oakes and Sidney Oakes; nephew-in-law, Joe Smith; and special neighbors: Ed and Florence Koehler.

Sorry for the loss of Lila. I never played cards with her, but saw her at the bank for many years. Always with a smile on her face and a kind word. RIP

I worked with Lila at the Bank. She was a great worker as well as a super great person.

I’m so sorry for your loss, she was an amazing lady. Just chatted with her a few weeks ago in the grocery store. She had made a point to come ask me how things were going, loved our little chit chats. She will be missed.

It was a privilege to know Lila for so many years. She was insightful, kind, and a joy to be around-we will miss her greatly. We send our deepest sympathy to her family.
My heart is heavy. Lila and I were golf partners in ladies’ league back in the day. She taught me about golfing in league, and I taught her about Southern Comfort and Sour. We could talk about anything and everything. She was remarkable..the perfect combination of sugar and spice. I loved her laugh. Only Lila had the power to get me to go to the casino or dog track. She was loved by many including me. Condolences to all who knew and loved her.

Lila was true and lovely friend. I loved her laugh and the way she cared for others. We recently had lunch and I told her I would love to grow up to be just like her. I’ll remember her fondly.
Will miss her on our Wednesday Girls Night Out!!!! Alway could make us laugh and smile. And we called her LUCKY LILA, and she was. Started working with Lila at 18 years old at the Bank. This was before computers so everything was posted by hand. Always had the cupboard filled with food. Will always be remembered!!!!
