Josephine Terry

New Glarus – Heaven gained a loving heart on October 9th. Josephine Terry, age 96, our iconic and legendary mom, grandma, great grandma, auntie and friend passed away peacefully at home Sunday evening surrounded by her family.

Josie was the epitome of mother, whose motto was to love in abundance and whose strong faith allowed her to inevitably see the positive in all things. She is irreplaceable but we are blessed to have lived amongst her great wisdom and we will strive to draw from her teachings.

Josie was born in Port Huron, MI in 1926. She spent her early years in Greece before the family returned to the US and settled in Daytona Beach, FL. After graduating from high school in 1944 she worked as a “Rosie the Riveter” driving an overhead crane in a bullet factory.

She met our beloved father John Terry Sr.and they were wed in Fort Meade, MD in 1951. They settled in Madison where they had five children. In 1972 they relocated to Adams-Friendship where she resided for 30 years. Josephine was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus and taught catechism at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Adams, WI.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband John Terry Sr. and by her eldest son John Terry Jr.

She is survived by her 4 children, Patrick Terry of Madison, WI, Robert Terry (Mickie) of Lake Nebagamon, WI, Mary Terry (Stefano) of Rome, Italy, Kathleen Terry of New Glarus, WI; Daughter-in-Law, Dianne Terry of Madison, WI; 6 grandchildren Anne Terry of London, UK; Erinn Keller (Dan) of Chandler, AZ, John Terry of Minneapolis, MN, Jackson Terry (Sarah) of Lake Nebagamon, WI, Giorgio Pompei of Rome, Italy, and Simon Terry of Savage, MN; 2 Great grandchildren Emily Keller of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Keller of Chandler, AZ, Great grandson at heart Landon; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
