Gary was born on October 12, 1947, in Baraboo WI, the son of Norvin and Lucille (Conway) Ennis. He graduated from Baraboo High School. He was raised in St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Baraboo and was a member of St. Raphael Cathedral in Madison. Gary worked for many years in service-related positions; 16 years in which he provided patient assistance at Oakwood Village Assisted Living (his favorite job).
Gary was a Knight with The Knights of Columbus, Madison Council 531. Some of his greatest joy came from serving as a K of C clown in numerous parades. He enjoyed go-carts, model trains, and had a life-long fascination with ultralight aircraft. When family gatherings were held, you could always count on Gary to be the first one to show up to help … usually well before family members hosting the event had even gotten out of bed!
Survivors include his siblings, Eugene “Gene” (Jane) Ennis, Beaver Dam WI; Owen “Mike” (Nona) Ennis, Baraboo WI; Sharon (Bill) Schmaltz, McDonough GA; Renee (Curt) Hill Baraboo WI; James “Jim” Ennis, Baraboo WI; and special friend Hannelore (“Lorie”) Engel, West Allis (formerly of Madison). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen “Kay” (Donald “Ted”) Lange, and brother Patrick “Pat” (Maxine Uptagraw) Ennis.
A special Thank You to the excellent care and support provided to Gary by the very caring staff of Sienna Crest, Agrace Hospice Care team, and Epiphany of the Lord Parish for ministering to Gary while he was a resident of Sienna Crest.
Gary will be laid to rest at St. Joseph’s / Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo WI on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at 11 AM. There will be a graveside service, only.
Roseberry’s Funeral Home and Crematory (https://roseberrys.com/) in Friendship WI is assisting the family.
To a Brother Knight, may you rest in peace and share in God’s eternal blessings. Our prayers go out to the family during this challenging time – K of C Madison Council 531
I am very sad to hear of Gary’s passing. I have fun memories of Gary coming to hang out on our farm. There were a lot of cousins to play with, but Gary actually preferred the company of his Uncle Dick over his cousins!
Sending love and sympathy,
Rita
I am thinking of you all. Love you!
