Daniel Mossholder

Daniel Mossholder

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Daniel Mossholder, affectionately known as “Mossy,” who left this world on May 13, 2026, at the age of 71. Born on September 17, 1954, in Portage, Wisconsin, Dan was a beacon of warmth, humor, and resilience—a man who touched the lives of many with his generous spirit and unwavering love.

Dan was the son of the late Donald and Clarice (Harrison) Mossholder. He was also preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Amy Jo Mossholder, and his sisters, Myrna Griffin, Donna Platt, Louann Mossholder, and Mary Bailey. Despite these profound losses, Dan’s heart remained open and full of love for those around him.

He is survived by his loving children: Courtney Mossholder, Seth Mossholder (Katie Benson), and Abbey (Sean) Bernier. Dan aka Kissing Grandpa’s love lives on through his grandchildren Alicia Mossholder, Emily VanTassel, and Oliviana Bernier, who were the light of his life. Dan also leaves behind his brothers, James and Thomas Mossholder, his former wife and lifelong friend, Johanna (Richard) Gissal, and countless friends who were like family to him.

Dan’s journey began in Wisconsin Dells and Portage, WI, where he forged lifelong friendships.  His career as a professional painter was just the start of a hardworking life, culminating in over 15 plus years at AMPI in Portage, where he served as a forklift driver and a respected Teamsters Local 695 Union Liaison. Dan’s colleagues will remember him for his strong work ethic, humor and kindness.

A true enthusiast of Blues music, Dan found joy in music festivals, where he reveled in the
soulful sounds that spoke to his heart. His membership in the Old Anglers Society and his time spent playing poker in the Kook Room were treasured pastimes that reflected his love of camaraderie. Most importantly, Dan cherished every moment spent with family and friends, always ensuring they knew their importance in his life.

Dan was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and a deep, abiding love for those around him. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was always ready with a joke or a story to brighten someone’s day. His remarkable outlook on life, even in the face of personal challenges, was a testament to his strength and character.

A celebration of life and last hurrah will be held Wednesday May 20th , 2026, from 1:00 PM-5:00 PM at the Elks Club Lodge #675, located at 201 W Conant St., Portage, WI 53901. Dan’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been a part of his life. Your love and friendship meant the world to him, and we are comforted knowing he was surrounded by such a strong support system.

In this time of mourning, we celebrate a man who gave so much of himself to others. Dan’s
legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

As we say goodbye, let us honor his memory by carrying forward his incredible spirit and the joy he brought to our lives.  Rest in peace, Moss. You are deeply missed and forever loved
