Grace (Mikoda) Trzesniak Solchenberger of Adams passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the remarkable age of 102. It is with sad but grateful hearts we share the loss of our dearest Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma.
Grace was born November 20, 1923 in Quincy Township, Friendship, Wisconsin, to Roger and Mary (Klein) Mikoda. She was baptized at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and remained a lifelong member. Grace was raised in Quincy and spent her childhood playing on her grandparents’
homestead, which is now Castle Rock County Park. As young girls, she and her sister, Lucille, were very talented in music and played their guitar and accordion, entertaining family and neighbors at local get-togethers. Grace attended McBride and Hadlock Schools. After graduation, like many young girls of her era, she helped her family by going to work as a caretaker for another family. She cared for their children and assisted with housekeeping duties. When Grace was older, she moved to Chicago with her sister and cousins to work. Grace worked at the Crane Company where she helped make specialized components for navy vessels during WWII. There she would meet her future husband, John Trzesniak. Grace moved back to Friendship after the war. With the support of her parents, she and Lucille owned and operated the original Friendship Café. In later years, Grace would run a drive-in restaurant near Castle Rock Park. Neighbors and visitors alike loved Grace’s homemade food and hospitality. Her strawberry pie has never been matched.
On June 29, 1947, Grace and John were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adams and began their life together in Quincy. They were blessed with three children, Bob, Cheri and Jon. Her husband, John, passed away in 1972. Grace later met and married Charlie Solchenberger in 1982. Grace and Charlie enjoyed traveling, mostly to the eastern U.S., while Charlie drove semi-truck. After retirement, Grace and Charlie spent their winters in Arizona. Charlie passed away in 1998. Grace continued to live in Quincy near her childhood home and her family. She adored her family and loved her neighborhood. She spent most of her life residing within 10 miles of where she was born. Grace loved to spend time outdoors in her garden or on her John Deere lawnmower or relaxing in her gazebo after a hard day’s work. Once a year, she would wash the entire outside of her house by hand.
Grace devoted her life to her family. The love and kindness in her heart knew no limits and she would open her home all day long to family and friends that would stop in for a cup of coffee or a home-cooked meal, and a chat. She helped care for her parents and visited her sister often. She treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was fortunate to attend hundreds of school programs, band concerts, dance performances and athletic events and other special family events. She ended every occasion by declaring it another “precious moment.”
Grace’s kind and loving soul will endure forever. She was a blessing to her family and “Grandma Grace” to all who met her. She will forever be remembered for her devotion, humility and generosity.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, her beloved sister, step-son and many other special family members, including her very dear friend, Bonnie Nachreiner. Grace will be forever cherished by her children: Bob (Char) Trzesniak, Cheri (Bruce) Nachreiner and Jon Trzesniak; Grandchildren: Tania (Aaron) Bonnett, Megan (Doug) Moyer, Cole (Mikayla) Trzesniak, Bryce (Breanne) Trzesniak; Great grandchildren: Tyra, Kara, Maya, Ayden, Piper, Jackson, Bella, Ronin and Brycen (arriving in July). Grace is also survived by Charlie’s family: Son, Karl Solchenberger; Granddaughter: Bridget Exner (Troy Smith); Great grandchildren: Makenzie, Gracie, and Aryn; Monica and Al Arndt and family, and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Emplify Health by Gundersen – Friendship and Rosebrooke Assisted Living staff for their compassionate care of Grace over the years and in her last days.
Grace’s wishes were for a private family gathering. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials for Grace may be made to Emplify Health by Gundersen – Friendship, Adams Community Theater (ACT), and the Adams-Friendship Fine Arts Center.
