Thaine Albert Colburn

Thaine Albert Colburn, age 89, of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the White Creek Congregational Church in White Creek, Wisconsin. Pastor Dwight Condon will officiate. Interment will be at the Easton Cemetery, Twp of Easton, Wisconsin. Military Honors will be presented by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Thaine was born March 13, 1921 in Grand Marsh, Wisconsin to Albert Henry and Rachel Bessie (Neff) Colburn. He graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1939. Thaine worked for the Chicago NorthWestern Railroad for several years before serving in the Army during WWII. He returned to the railroad, where he worked as a telegrapher until 1981. Thaine married Dolores "Lolly" Rose Falkensteen on October 4, 1947. The couple lived in Adams and rural Friendship. They were blessed with three sons, Scott, Alan, and Mark. Lolly preceded Thaine in death on April 29, 1998. He married Gloria M. Booker on October 12, 2002 in Friendship, Wisconsin.

Thaine enjoyed reading, talking railroading, gardening, attending his American Legion meetings, and spending time with his family.

Thaine was a member of the Snyder Richardson American Legion Post 273, C&NW Veterans, Morse Telegraph Club, and the White Creek Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the White Creek Congregational Church.

Thaine was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Henry and Rachel Bessie Colburn; first wife, Dolores Rose Colburn; brother, Lawrence Colburn; brother, Keith Colburn; sister, Betty Chinn; sister, Polly Boyce; grandson, Robert Colburn;

Son: Scott (Kathy) Colburn of Spring Grove, Illinois
Son: Alan (Arlyce) Colburn of Portland, Oregon
Son: Mark Colburn of Adams, Wisconsin
Grandchildren: 14
Great-Grandchildren: 21
Brother: Donald Colburn of Tacoma, Washington
Sister: Dawn (Duane) DeMott of Oxford, Wisconsin
Further survived by three stepchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

    I often was asked if I was related to Thaine, our last names sound the same to some people, and had to tell them that our last names were not only spelled different, but pronouced different.
    A great man he will surely be missed.
