George Palmer Bredesen, Jr.

George Palmer Bredesen Jr., age 81, of Friendship, Wisconsin died Friday, February 23, 2007 at the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Friendship, Wisconsin. Father James P. McNamee will officiate. Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin. Military rites will be offered at the graveside service by the Adams VFW Post #6279; the Adams American Legion Red Cloud Post #250; and the Grand Marsh American Legion Snyder-Richardson Post #273.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home with rosary and bible reading at 7:30 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.

George was born June 4, 1925 in Arkdale, Wisconsin to George P. and Edna (Anderson) Bredesen Sr. He grew up in Arkdale and Adams-Friendship area. George was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Infantry as a radio operator in the European Theater. He was injured in the drive to Cherbourgh, France after the Normandy Invasion. After the war, George returned to Adams where he earned his High School Diploma. He worked at the REA (Adams Columbia Electrical Co-op) as billing clerk. George retired after 24 years and then became the Adams County Veteran Service Officer until his retirement in 1987.

He married Rosemary Jinsky on May 19, 1951 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.

George was a member of the A-F VFW Post #6279 (Charter Member); Red Cloud American Legion Post #250; Purple Heart Unit 168; St. Josephs Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Past 7th District VFW Commander; Past State President County Veterans Service Officer, Disabled American Vets; Military Order of Cooties, former member of Village of Friendship Fire Department, and past Village of Friendship President.

George enjoyed photography, camping, fishing, hunting out west, swimming, reading, cooking on the grill, being a grandpa and great-grandpa, and his family pets.

George was preceded in death by his father, George P. Bredesen Sr.; mother, Edna Bredesen; sister, Ellen Martin; and brother, Harold Bredesen.
