John "Jack" Ostrum

John Jack Henry Ostrum, age 85, of Arkdale, Wisconsin died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Rev.John K. Stake will officiate. Interment will be at the Monroe Center Cemetery, Town of Monroe, Adams County, Wisconsin. Military honors will be presented by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Friends may call at Roseberry’s Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Saturday from 12 Noon until the time of service.

Jack was born February 1, 1926 in New Rome, Wisconsin to John and Merle (Tracy) Ostrum. He grew up in Adams County. Jack was a veteran of WWII, serving in several capacities, including the artillery, motor pool, and the military police. He owned and operated Ostrums Garage, where his hard work and diligence was appreciated by his many loyal customers. After a hard days work, Jack and Betty were known to entertain their friends and the public with their singing and guitar playing. All who knew Jack appreciated his lively wit, musical talent and mechanical abilities.

Jack was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a wonderful father and friend and will be sadly missed.

Jack was preceded in death by parents, John and Merle Ostrum; wife, Betty Ostrum; brothers: Leo Ostrum, James Ostrum, and William Ostrum; 2nd wife, Illene Ostrum; granddaughter, Nina Preston; grandson, John E. Ostrum; and step-grandson, Jason.

Sister: Helen Stone of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin
Brother: Ralph Ostrum of Arkdale, Wisconsin
Further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    We are all so sorry we missed the services. We did not find out unil they were over. I remember as a child going visit Jack with my parents (LuAnn and Wally Raymer) or grandfather (Corliss Nelson)the tales of things Grandpa and Jack did. There wasn’t a car he couldn’t fix. The loss of an icon is difficult. May you find peace in your memories until you meet again.
