IRENE
E. BAKOVKA, 948 Bighorn Ave. Hancock, WI (Big Flats) passed
away at the Nursing Care unit of Mound View Memorial
Hospital, Friendship, WI at 1 P.M. on Wednesday, December 8th,
2004.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on
Saturday, Decemeber 11th at Roseberry’s Funeral
Home in Friendship. The John Stakes will officiate.
Following services private family burial services will be at
the Niebull Cemetery, Big Flats. Visitation will be held
from 12 Noon until time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Irene was born to John and Ethyl (Jones) Buck on February
15, 1932 in Friendship where she also attended and graduated
from Adams-Friendship schools. She married Steve A. Bakovka
on April 10, 1953 and moved to Wisconsin Rapids and was
employed as a Postal Clerk in a Postal sub-station at
Churches Drug Store, for several years, then becoming
employed as head book keeper for Northern Gas Co. until she
and her husband developed and operated Pineland Camping Park
for 20 years. Irene, was very active in promoting tourism
for Adams County, in the 1970’s and 80’s by attending
various sport shows in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois and
Iowa. She was a past President, and served on the board of
the Adams County Chamber of Commerce, also served on the
board ofCastle Rock-Petenwell Lakes Association, and the
board of Yellow River Country. Her favorite activity was
going to country western concerts and traveling to Nashville
to the Grand Ole Opery.
Survivors include her husband,Steve Bakovka, Hancock and
four sons, Richard (Susan) Bakovka, Nekoosa, Douglas (Lois)
Bakovka, Port Edwards, Danny (Patricia) Bakovka, Wis. Rapids
and Randy (special friend Pam Kluth) Bakovka, Arkdale. Seven
grandchildren, Eron, Sera, Leah, Jon "Buck" , Samantha,
Nicole and Cierra "CJ". Also one sister Lu (John) Bakovka,
Arkdale, also nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and
sister-in-laws.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents and three
brothers, Earl, George and Carl, one sister Eva.
In lieu of flowers memorial in memory of Irene E. Bakovka,
has been established with the proceeds going to help fund
the Quiet Room at Mound View Memorial Hospital, 402 West
Lake street, Friendship, WI 53934
