Robert G. Romell, age 80 of Adams, WI died
Sunday, February 8th, 2004 at the Adams County
Memorial Hospital in Friendship, WI.
Masonic Funeral Services were held on
Saturday, February 14, 2004 at Roseberry’s Funeral Home &
Crematory in Friendship. Final interment will be at the New
Rome Cemetery.
Robert (Bob) was born February 4, 1924 in
Saint Paul, MN, the first son of Louis and Catherine (June)
Romell. The Romell family moved to their farm in Easton
Township in October 1931. He attended Jackson School and
Adams Friendship High School, graduating in 1942. After
graduation Bob farmed until 1947 when he was hired by the
CNW Railroad as a fireman. His employment was interrupted
when he was called to serve with the Heavy Motor Company, 1st
Calvary of the United States Army. Following his military
service he returned to his employment with the CNW Railroad.
Bob married Elizabeth (Betty) Wolf on June
4, 1955 after which they moved to Milwaukee. His daughter
Carole was born there on October 25, 1958. Milwaukee was
home to the Romell family until 1970 when he was "set-up" as
Railroad Engineer, which required a move to Adams County.
Bob left the CNW Railroad in 1990 to spend
his retirement traveling to Europe and Florida to visit his
daughter and grandson and by taking antiquing trips with his
wife Betty. He was kept very active by his interests in
gardening, rock and antique collecting and talking local
politics with friends. Bob took great pleasure in the
"Yesteryear Fair" that he and his family held as a fund
raiser for the Adams County Historical Society.
He was Local Chairman for the UTU and
served multiple terms as a member of the A-F Area School
Board. He was also a member of the Adams County Planning and
Zoning Board, the Midwest Tool Collectors Society, the
Geological Society and the Adams County Historical Society.
Bob’s first priority and love was for his
family. He will be remembered for his love for his family
(the whole bunch), his ready smile, his quick wit and sense
of humor, his kind and giving nature, and his willingness to
always lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Robert was preceded in death by his
parents, and one brother (Ralph – WWII)
