Betty Louise McGowan, age 80,
of Friendship, WI was born to eternal life on Saturday,
January 10th, 2004 at the Villa Pines Living
Center in Friendship.A memorial service will be 10 a.m.
on Thursday, January 15th, 2004 at the First
Baptist Church, located on the corner of Liberty and Pine in
Adams. Pastor Sam Downey will officiate.
Betty was born April 21, 1923 in the West Side Hospital
in Chicago, IL to Winn and Edna (Dawes) McGowan. She
graduated from A-F High School and later got a B.S. degree
in Conservation and English from UW-Stevens Point.
In 1948 Betty went to Juneau, AK where she was the
librarian for the Alaska Bureau of Fisheries, and later was
an account clerk for the Unemployment Securities Commission.
While in Alaska, she also taught school and was a secretary
for the 5039th Air Force Depot Wing, Elmendorf
AFB, Anchorage.
Betty then moved to Fort Worth, TX where she received a
master’s degree in Religious Education (MRE) from
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Upon returning to
Wisconsin, Betty was employed as a social worker in Monroe
and Adams Counties.
Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Adams.
Memorials in Betty’s memory may be directed to the Adams
County Animal Shelter.
