Harley R. Grotzke, 80, of Wisconsin Dells, passed away January 13, at St. Clare's Hospital, Baraboo.

Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Harley was born to Julius and Ada Irene (Simonson) Grotzke on April 24, 1923 in Portage, WI. He attended the Fort Winnebago and Portage schools. He served during World War II as Sergeant E7, machine gunner and was captured at Monte Cassino, Italy where he was detained as a POW for eight months. After returning, he married June Bublitz on November 20, 1945. The marriage was dissolved. They had two children. He remarried Margaret Huston on July 28, 1964. They had two children. The marriage was dissolved.

Harley worked as a maintenance man for the following companies: Badger Ordinance, Gisholt's, Weinberg Shoes, and was a bus driver for Brenner Transportation.

Harley owned his own farm named Thunder Acres where he raised and owned Appaloosa horses that were his pride.

Harley enjoyed hunting and fishing. He raised horses and loved riding them in parades with his family. He enjoyed working on his tractor. In his later years, his grandchildren brought him much pleasure.

He was preceded in death by both wives, June and Margaret, brothers-in-law, Carl Kluth and Arnold Schultz. Survivors include: sisters, Delores Kluth, Portage, WI; Eunice (Harold) Scherbert, Portage, WI; Jane (James) Brunt, Clawson, MI. His children Linda (Greg) Smithback, DeForest, WI; Lisa (Don) Benarek, Poynette, WI ; Doug(Cheri) Vandermoon, Pardeeville, WI; Harley (Ann) Grotzke, Jr., Adams, WI; Julie (Troy) Underdahl, WI Dells,WI. His grandchildren: Rocky and Casey Vandermoon, of Pardeeville, WI; Michael, Haley and Hunter Grotzke of WI Dells; Ashley and Paige Schwabe and Kirstin Feign of Adams, WI. He is also survived by other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and relatives.
