Mrs. Janssen was born on November 8, 1911 in Butler
County, Iowa, to Henry and Grace (Baumgartner) Kramer. She
attended high school in Mankato, Minn., and then went to
Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She began
teaching in Cleves, Iowa, and there met and married John
Janssen on September 15, 1933. They moved to Minnesota where
she taught all eight grades in a one-room school. Later she
taught for many years in the Spooner, WI school district and
in the Adams-Friendship school district where she taught 4th
grade. Many of her former students will remember the puppets
they made in her class and the stage where they put on
puppet shows. She was especially proud that she had been
able to teach her son, Martin, and all four of her Grandsons
in 4th grade before retiring.
She also enjoyed painting, gardening, flowers, and
playing the piano and organ. She was a member of the retired
teachers association.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, sister
Janet and brother Robert.
Her son Martin (Carole) Janssen, four Grandsons James,
David (Kristin), William (Cheri), and Christopher (Cheri),
and seven Great Grandchildren, a sister Ruth (Robert)
Lovgren and brother Donald Kramer survive her.
