Alma
Elaine Kulmatycki, age 83, of Mauston, Wisconsin died
Sunday, December 25, 2005 at the Fair View Home in Mauston,
Wisconsin following a brief hospitalization after suffering
a broken hip. Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the Adams Trinity Lutheran
Church in Adams, Wisconsin. The Rev. Doug Steinke will
officiate. Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery,
Friendship, Wisconsin. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. until
the time of service on Wednesday at the Church.
Elaine was born December 11, 1922 in Fond du Lac,
Wisconsin to Theodore and Alma Linda Paulina (Busse) Kobs.
She grew up in a family of eight children. She was an
original member of the Fond du Lac Mickey Mouse Club. The
family moved to Adams, Wisconsin in the late 1920’s. Her
family owned and operated the Kob’s Shoe Store in Adams.
Elaine worked in the store after school repairing shoes. She
graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1940. She
married Edward Kulmatycki on October 7, 1940 in the Little
Brown Church in Iowa.
The first year of marriage was spent in Chicago, IL and
then Edward was drafted and she traveled from camp to camp
with her daughter Rosemary until he went overseas. After 3
years of WWII Ed came home and they took over Big Flats
Tavern, working side by side. She was deeply devoted to her
husband Ed, her daughters and family. They sold the bar in
1972 and retired. They then worked for fun at Sky-Line with
Ed’s tap dancing on the bar and Elaine waitressing. She also
worked at Ken’s Clothing for her daughter and son-in-law.
Elaine lived in Big Flats until 1987 and was a member of
Zion Lutheran Church until she moved to Adams.
She purchased the former Harry Wormet farm and completely
remodeled it. Elaine was proud to be a member of the Adams
Trinity Lutheran Church and rarely missed church or church
activities. She was a quiet witness in her walk of faith in
Christ.
Elaine was content to be a homemaker and never complained
about her lot in life. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, doing
upholstery, puzzles, and woodworking. Elaine also enjoyed
retreats with her brothers and sisters, and going to Sugar
Creek Bible Camp. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing
for her family. Elaine loved animals of all kinds, making
sure they never went hungry – especially her dog, Toby. Her
mission in life was to make sure her husband, daughters,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren were baptized and
confirmed Lutherans. She had a gentle and sweet spirit and
was very generous and proud lady. Elaine worked tirelessly
to provide for her family’s need throughout her lifetime.
After selling her farm in 1991, she lived with her daughter
Donna and enjoyed her life with them. Elaine looked forward
to Tuesdays with her sister-in-law Anne. The past six
months, Elaine lived with Rosemary and added more people to
the list of people that loved and enjoyed her. She was a
special lady and will be missed by her family and friends.
