Helen was born on July 1, 1927 in Kenosha, Wisconsin the daughter of Joseph and Jennie (Knopski) Subacz. She was raised by foster parents, Earhart and Mabel Jessen. Helen graduated from Edgewood Academy in Madison Wisconsin. She married Edward J. Podbereski, Sr. on August 16, 1947 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Kenosha. Besides being a homemaker she was a salesperson for Irvings Furs & Fashions and also worked in the office of Simmons Company.

Helen enjoyed playing cards, bike riding, and traveling to Florida during the winter months before she became ill.

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, foster parents and husband.
