Bruce
Fred Humphrey, age 74, of Coloma, Wisconsin died at his home
of heart failure on Tuesday, May 17th, 2005.
There will be an open house for the celebration of his life
on Saturday, May 21st at the Humphrey home from
1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Bruce was born July 2, 1930 in Coloma, Wisconsin, the son
of Fred and Tress (Mohlke) Humphrey and attended school in
Hancock, Wisconsin graduating from High School in 1947. He
attended Central State Teacher’s College in Stevens Point
until he was drafted by the U.S. Army where he served until
his father’s death in 1952. On March 19, 1952 he married
Alyce L. Archambault in Chicago, Illinois and after his
discharge from the Army they settled in Coloma, where they
have lived for 53 years. Bruce was an auto and small engine
mechanic for many years, working in various service stations
and his own business until 1969 when he began working for
the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as an auto
mechanic. Later he worked for UW-SP as a purchasing agent
for the Physical Plant until his retirement in 1992.
Bruce was highly intelligent, a man of strong opinions
and many interests. He loved his wife and family and his
good life. Other enjoyments were hunting and fishing
anywhere with his many buddies, deep friendships with his
sons-in-law, and reading.
He and Alyce designed and built their home themselves in
1979, and in his retirement Bruce honed his woodworking
skills, creating many beautiful pieces of furniture. He had
great determination and fully recovered from a brain
aneurysm in the spring of 2000, continuing to work in his
shop and on the land until a heart attack in September 2003.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister
Dorothy.
His wife, Alyce; daughters Cheri Humphrey, Stevens Point;
Diane (Gary) Lueck, Friendship; Irene (Dick) Klapoetke,
Stevens Point; grandchildren, Karen (Mark) Poirier, Stevens
Point and Kevin Klapoetke, St. Paul, MN survive him.
We love him very much and will miss his companionship and
inspiration.
