John L. Sullivan, age 78, of Adams, Wisconsin died Saturday, May 28, 2005 at the Moundview Memorial Hospital & Clinic in Friendship, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2005, at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Adams, Wisconsin.  Father James P. McNamee will officiate.  Interment will be at the St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin. Military rites will be offered by the Adams VFW Post #6279; the Adams American Legion Red Cloud Post #250; and the Grand Marsh American Legion Snyder-Richardson Post #273.

Visitation will be at Roseberry’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 1,  from 4 to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Joseph’s on Thursday.

John was born April 3, 1927, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Dan and Joan (Tierney) Sullivan.  He grew up on the family farm in Ojibwa, Wisconsin, and graduated from Winter High School in 1944.

John served in the Army from 1945 -1946 in Berlin, Germany. He received his bachelor’s degree from the UW Madison School of Education in 1950, and his master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from UW Madison in 1971. 

John was a teacher and coach at Winter High School from 1954–1963. He moved to Adams in 1963 and taught Physical Education before becoming the Guidance Counselor at Adams-Friendship High School. John retired in 1989.

John served as an alderman for the City of Adams, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and had been a member of the Adams Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and following his favorite athletic teams. After retirement, he and his bride of 49 years enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe.

John married Dolores M. Wojszko on September 13, 1952, in Racine, Wisconsin. They were blessed with five children. She preceded John in death on Dec. 31, 2001.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jim Sullivan.

   Grandchildren:       Erik Rubottom of Duluth, MN; and Cari Rubottom of LaCrosse, WI
   Grandchildren:       Jill, Adam Danklefsen of Geneva, IL
   Brother:               Dan (Betty) Sullivan of Des Plaines, IL
   Brother:               Bob (Joan) Sullivan of Manitowoc, WI

Further survived by many nieces and nephews including Joanne (Code) Erdmann of Adams and her son, Owen Riese.
