Mark "Coon" W. Allen, age 97,
of King (formerly of Friendship), Wisconsin died Tuesday,
January 3, 2006 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King,
Wisconsin.Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. on Saturday,
January 7, 2006 at the Roseberry's Funeral Home in
Friendship, Wisconsin. The Rev. Ronald Hanson will
officiate. Visitation will be
on Saturday at Roseberry's Funeral Home from 3 p.m.
until the time of service.
Interment will be 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at the South Burr
Oak Cemetery. Military rites will be offered by the Adams
VFW Post #6279; the Adams American Legion Red Cloud Post
#250; and the Grand Marsh American Legion Snyder-Richardson
Post #273.
Coon was born December 10, 1908 in Monroe Center,
Wisconsin to Jesse and Agnes B. (Pease) Allen. He married
Myrtle Mae Lyon on September 29, 1930 in Friendship,
Wisconsin. Coon was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army
in the European Theater of War. They made their home in
Friendship, Wisconsin. He and his wife owned and operated
the Bear Trap in Friendship from 1952 to 1974. Coon also
worked as a local carpenter for many years.
Coon enjoyed hunting and fishing; collecting and
repairing guns; raising, training, and showing horses.
Coon was a member of the Adams American Legion Red Cloud
Post #250 for 60 years.
Coon was preceded in death by his parents; wife (Myrtle
M. – April 8, 2001); sons (Erwin – July 28, 1934, Lyle M. –
November 1981, and David – June 30, 1988); daughter (Dorothy
Sindelar – September 15, 2004) brothers (Leonard, Berty,
Calvin, Theodore, and Bernie); and one sister (Katie
Anderson).
