Albert
Frank Cherveny, age 91, of Friendship, Wisconsin died
December 17, 2007 at Moundview Memorial Hospital & Clinics
in Friendship, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December
21, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Friendship,
Wisconsin. Father James P. McNamee will officiate. Interment
will be at the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery, Adams, Wisconsin.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at Roseberry's
Funeral Home, and again from 11:00 a.m. until the time of
services on Friday at the Church.
Albert was born December 11, 1916 in Belle Plaine, Iowa,
the son of Albert Jr. and Anna (Krajicek) Cherveny. Upon his
graduation from Belle Plaine High School in 1934, Albert
began working for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.
Following his father and grandfather to have a combined
total of 145 years service for the same railroad.
On September 26,1940 Albert married Margaret Delores
(Maynard) of Coloma at St. Joseph Catholic Church in
Wautoma. They began their married life with a brand new
Palace Trailer to live in so Albert could keep his young
family near where he was working in various small towns
around central Wisconsin. When their second baby was due
they moved to a house in Adams and soon purchased their
first home.
Over the next several years he worked his way up within
the railroad from starting as a section laborer through
several signal department positions. He took correspondence
courses to learn the intricacies of the circuitry of signals
and then had the position of Signal Maintainer in Watertown,
South Dakota from 1947 until 1955. He advanced to lead
Supervisor in Madison, WI for 2 years then returned to Adams
as District Forman from 1957 until 1961. Boone, Iowa was his
next location when he took the Assistant Signal Supervisor
position and in 1965 became the Signal Supervisor until
retirement in 1980. Albert was a member or the local 39 of
the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen.
After retirement Albert and Delores spent winters in
their home in Edinburg, TX and their summers in West Des
Moines, IA. They did much traveling and kept in contact with
the many friends they made in the various towns they resided
in.
Albert was a lifetime member of the knights of Columbus,
having served as Grand Knight of Council 859 while living in
Watertown, SD. In 1954. Albert was a member of St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Adams and Friendship.
Albert is survived by his wife, M. Delores, 2 daughters,
Patricia (Francis) Kierstyn of Friendship and Nancy (Steven
) Underbakke of Plover; 2 sons, James (Judith Peters)
Cherveny of Duluth, Minnesota and Thomas (Marie Lecy)
Cherveny of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; 11 grandchildren and
18 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister
Mildred (Lawrence) Knuth of Vinton Iowa; brothers, Donald
Cherveny of Denton, Texas and Robert Cherveny of Vinton
Iowa.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and
Anna (Krajicek) Cherveny; a son John Scott Cherveny; a great
granddaughter Kailee Ann Kierstyn.

Church Building Fund or Adams County Historical Society.
