Robert
E. Ward, age 94, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away surrounded
by his family on February 10, 2008 at the Moundview Memorial
Extended Care in Friendship, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February
16, 2008 at the Davis Corners United Methodist Church,
Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. Pastor Steve Miller will
officiate. Interment will be at the Davis Corners Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. on Friday at Roseberry's
Funeral Home, Friendship, Wisconsin and again from 10:00
a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Robert was born November 12, 1913 in Adams County,
Wisconsin to Earl and Jessie (Thorne) Ward. He graduated
from Westfield High School in 1933. Following high school he
then took a Dale Carnegie Course in Milwaukee as well as
night school office courses. Robert met Della Mclaughlin at
a dance in Milwaukee. He and Della later married on February
20, 1937 after a 3 month courtship. Robert and Della would
have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on
February 20, 2008. He worked at Allis Chalmers, 7-UP
Bottling Co. and Super Charger. In 1943 Robert was sent to
Sheepshead Bay in New York for Maritime Service Training. On
the Merchant Marine Ship, he was trained to use 20
Millimeter guns and made many voyages to Europe and North
Africa. Then in 1946 He and Della moved back to Adams County
and farmed his father�s farm and his own irrigation farm
until his retirement in 1976.
Robert and Della adopted a son, Tom in November 1947. Tom
and his wife had 8 children and 12 grandchildren.
Robert was a School Board Member at Davis Corners, a
member of the Adams County Development Corp. for 12 years, a
board member for Adams-Columbia Electric Co-op for 19 years
and a mail carrier for Grand Marsh for 24 years. After his
retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, flying his airplane and
traveling throughout the states with Della.
Robert said " I�ve had a good life and a good wife, now
its time to rest. Who could ask for anything more? Thank the
Lord."
