June
Esther Hanke of Friendship, WI, passed away on Monday, June
9, 2008, in Sioux City, IA.
The daughter of Edward
and Mary (Lish) Hollman, she was born March 16, 1926, and
raised on the family farm in Lincoln Township, Coloma, WI.
She attended Pilot Knob School.
While on the Hollman
farm, she met the love of her life Carl William Hanke (of
Whitehall, WI). June and Carl were married on December
12, 1943, in Belton, TX, before he left for World War II.
They were happily married for over 53 years. June and
Carl had one daughter Carlette-Rhea.
June's first employment
was at the Friendship Hotel. She went on to work at
the Adams Co. Memorial Hospital for over 28 years. She
worked in the Lab and X-Ray and went on to become the
Director of Purchasing until she retired. June and her
husband also had a flag business for over 25 years.
June was involved in
the Friendship community and was a lifetime member of the
American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary (for over 50
years),the Friendship Fire Dpt. Auxiliary, and a member of
the Mound View Snowmobile Club.
June enjoyed traveling
and sight seeing. She and her husband looked forward
to spending the winter months at their home in FL.
Other hobbies include her vegetable and flower garden, where
she was most fond of her Hollyhocks and Trumpet Vines.
She also loved music, dancing, cooking, baking, but most of
all her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and
grandmother. She treasured her grandchildren,
Brian and Darin Machan (and their wives), Great-grandsons
Joshua and Peyton Machan and one Great-grandson on the way.
June was preceded in
death by sister, Irene Hollman, parents Ed and Mary Hollman
and husband Carl. She is survived by daughter Carlette-Rhea
and son-in-law Gary Machan, Sioux City, IA. Grandson
Brian and wife Jen Machan, Ankeny, IA. Grandson Darin
and wife Amy Machan with great grandson's Joshua and Peyton
Machan, Dakota Dunes, SD. Sister-in-law and
brother-in-law, Janice and John Tranberg, Kenosha, WI,
sister-in-law, Julia Hanke, Milwaukee, WI and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be
Friday, June 13, 2008, from 5 - 8 pm at Roseberry's Funeral
Home in Friendship, WI. Funeral Services will be
Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10 am at Roseberry's Funeral
Home, Friendship, WI. Interment at Mt. Repose
Cemetery in Friendship, WI.
