Mary
was born October 5, 1914 in Blackie Alberta Canada to the
late Ira and Fannie (Atkinson) Bergeson. She married her
late husband Emil C. Carlson on December 18, 1946. Mary came
from a large family of siblings that preceded her in death;
Verda (Jack Briggs), Alice (Bill Chantalois), Kenneth I.
Bergeson (Ella), Lawrence C. Bergeson (Jean), Glenn
Bergeson, Blenda (Bob Renfert), George R. Bergeson, Ada
(Chuck Paige).
Mary is survived by
her youngest sister Della D. (Starr) of Mt. Prospect,
Illinois
And her
sister-in-law Irene Bergeson, wife of the late George R.
Bergeson of Jamestown, Rhode Island as well as numerous
nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews all over the
states and Canada, many friends, acquaintances and the
family of the late Emil Carlson.
Mary
attained a college education in 1932 in Calgary Alberta
Canada while living with her late sister Verda and her
husband Jack Briggs. She worked and went to school until she
moved out in the middle 1930s to Chicago, Illinois. She
lived in Chicago and worked in the big city until 1940, she
really missed the open country and wanted to live on a farm
again, so she purchased a small farm in Arkdale Wisconsin
right next to her future husbands farm. During the war years
she worked in the defense plants in the Wisconsin Rapids and
maintained her farm until she got married on December 18,
1946.
Mary
with Emil worked their dairy farm that also produced sheep,
Black Angus cattle, chickens and eggs. Mary was well known
for her love of animals and always had dogs and birds. In
her younger years she also had horses because she loved to
ride. She was feisty and outspoken about the things around
her, but she was also hardworking, honest, fair and
compassionate. She touched many lives all around her, both
animal and human, from her good neighbors the Andersons down
the road to her husbands late parents and family and her
younger sister Della and her children from Chicago. Mary
also worked at the Villa Pines Living Center for many years
off and on. She felt an affinity to the center and to those
who worked there. Her last years were spent there being
taken care of by the wonderful staff.
