Mary
L. Montgomery, age 82, of Adams, Wisconsin went to be with
our Lord on (April) iskigamizige-giizis 3, 2009 Maple Sugar
Moon.
A private family service will be on Easter Sunday at
her home and a memorial service will be held at a later date
in Gilbert, West Virginia. Mary was born in Portage
Township, Houghton County, Michigan on February 8, 1927 to
Adolph and Estelle Mary (Edgerton) Laux. She was an Enrolled
member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Lake Superior
Band of Chippewa Ojibwa Indians. Mary came from a large
family of 8 one of which was a very special brother Rudy (Sweetpea).
Mary and her husband Earl made many trips back to
Houghton to assist with her brother Rudy and her Mothers
care. She moved to Milwaukee in 1957 and began working at
the AC Sparkplug Kennelworth factory were she met her very
special friend Vi Ydnate. Mary transferred to A-C Delco in
Oakcreek, were she met another very special friend Bernice
Moser who became her traveling buddy in years to come.
Mary met Earl Montgomery at Delco and they were married
on January 30,1960 in Waukegan Illinois. She and Earl
resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where they joined the
Southside Church of Christ. Her daughter, Wanda Jeanne
Montgomery was born on August 15, 1960 and her Son, Ronald
Scott Montgomery was born on October 14, 1962.
Mary and Earl built a home in Caledonia, Wisconsin and
moved in on August 10, 1967. Mary enjoyed many things, one
of which was traveling with her dear friend Bernice. She was
able to see Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Jerusalem, Florida and
Hawaii. Mary retired from General Motors Delphi on April 1st
1990 with over thirty years of service. She had a lot of fun
with (kids) at work taking several trips to Las Vegas. Mary
loved her Grandchildren Very much and held them very
close to her heart. Mary and Earl were able to take Ryan,
one of their grandchildren to see Washington D.C. and visit
family in Roanoke, Virginia and Gilbert, West Virginia in
the summer of 1990 following her retirement.
Marys husband was diagnosed with Alzheimers and after a
courageous battle, made his journey home on November 16,
1996. Shortly after Earls death, Mary was diagnosed with
Alzheimers and her daughter Wanda became her caregiver. She
was given the nickname "Sophia" during a visit with her dear
friend Vi in August of 1999 in Woodstock, Georgia, her Great
Aunt Nonie Cowan in October of 2000, Nashville Tennessee and
made several trips to Gilbert West Virginia, Houghton,
Michigan and Crivitz, Wisconsin to visit family and
Grandchildren.
Mary, Wanda and her Grandson Dustin moved to Adams,
Wisconsin on September 15, 2003 to make life more
manageable, peaceful and serene. Mary very much enjoyed
living in the area and she was able to do things and see
much of the beauty in and around Adams County until the
Alzheimers would not let go. However from her home she was
able to see all of the beauty outside and have the comfort
from her buddies, Dakotah and Nandi, her dogs. She loved to
listen to her Polka music throughout the years and it was a
very big part of her life. Her son, Ron; daughter-in-law,
Cindy; and grandchildren Paisley and Paige were able to
visit her on New Years 2009.
Marys grandson, Dustin was a special gleam in her eye.
He was that little guy that she knew would make her smile
and give her comfort. Wanda Jeanne took care of Mary for
many years and tried her best to cushion all the hard blows
through their crazy journey. Mary will always hold a
very special place in everyones heart.
Special thanks to Dr. Kevin, nurse Maggie, 2nd
floor staff at Riverview Hospital and to Hospice Touch.
Mary will be terribly missed by Wanda and Dustin. "It
will never be the same but you are finally, finally at
peace. God bless my angel, we love you"
