Donald
Lawrence York, age 60, of Friendship, Wisconsin died April
18, 2009 at his home following a short battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday,
April 21, 2009 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in
Friendship, Wisconsin. Father James P. McNamee will
officiate. Friends may pay their respects at Roseberry's
Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. (a prayer service
will be held at 7:45 p.m.) and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until
the time of Mass at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church.
Cremation will follow the traditional services, with
final interment at the St. Leo�s Catholic Cemetery,
Friendship, Wisconsin.
Donald was born January 7, 1949 in Arkdale, Wisconsin to
Clarence and Viola (Pedersen) York. He graduated from
Adams-Friendship High School in 1968. Donald was a veteran
of the Vietnam War, serving in the Marine Corps. He married
Barbara Lobenstein on October 11, 1969 in Adams, Wisconsin.
Donald worked as an Equipment Operator for the Adams County
Highway Department and later was promoted to Road
Superintendent in March of 1992. He retired in 2006 after 38
years of service.
Donald was very involved in the community serving in the
VFW Honor Guard, former Senior Vice of VFW Post #6279; Past
President of the Wisconsin Road Superintendents; Firefighter
and EMT for many years, Deputy Sheriff, Past President and
coach of Roche-A-Cri Little League.
Donald was preceded in death by his grandparents, Irwin
and Jessie York and Hans and Hilda Pedersen.
