Eugene "Gene" R. Schlachter, age 80, of Friendship, Wisconsin died Thursday, February 19, 2009 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Friendship, Wisconsin. Father James P. McNamee will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at the St. Leo�s Catholic Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin. Military honors will be presented by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 12:00 Noon until the time of Mass on Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. A rosary will be held at 1:45 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus.

Gene was born July 10, 1928 in Peoria, Illinois to Daniel and Minnie (Fromm) Schlachter. He served in the Navy from 1948 to 1954. He married Dorothy Tennent on June 4, 1955 at St. Cletus Catholic Church, La Grange, IL. The couple lived in Norwood Park, IL and then Palatine, IL before moving to Friendship, WI in September of 1969. Gene worked as a self employed builder his entire life until his retirement in 1990.

Gene enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, working, and spending time with his family.

Gene was a member of St. Joseph�s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post#6279; and Carpenters Union 839.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
