Douglas "Bud" Akkerman, age
68, of Friendship, Wisconsin passed away on May 16, 2010 at
the Moundview Memorial Hospital & Clinics in Friendship,
Wisconsin after a long illness.
Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 21,
2010 at the Roseberry's Funeral Home in Friendship.
Friends may call at Roseberry's on Friday from 10:00 a.m.
until the time of service.
Cremation will follow the traditional service, with final
interment at the Fordham Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin at
a later date.
Douglas was born March 13, 1942 in Wisconsin Rapids,
Wisconsin to Douglas and Edith (Kingsley) Akkerman. He was
raised by his mother and stepfather Ervin Sipla, living in
the Adams-Friendship area his whole life.
On July 26, 1961 he married Nancy Armstrong to which 5
children were born. He had worked for a body shop, on road
construction, City of Adams Police Officer, the Baraboo
Ammunition Plant, Jim & Ivan�s Gas Station, Farmers Union
Coop, and Penda Corporation in Portage before retiring
following a stroke on February 16, 2004.
Bud was a member of Western Bohemian Lodge 193 for 50
years, 47 years as a member of Modern Woodmen Camp 650,
served 37 years as a 4-H project leader of the Busy Bees 4-H
Club. He was a volunteer fireman for the Adams Fire
Department for nearly 15 years. He also belonged to the
Moundview Snowmobile Club and the Farmers Union.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, snowmobiling, watching
NASCAR races on TV, going for rides and eating out.
He was preceded in death by
his mother & stepfather; grandparents; and brother, Michael
Sipla.
