Robert W. Humphry, 76, of
Friendship, WI, formerly of Belvidere, died Wednesday, May
12, 2010 in his home.
Born February 18, 1934 in
Belvidere, son of Arthur and Louise (Taylor) Humphry.
Served our country as a US Marine during the Korean
Conflict. Married Aloha Gustafson on May 22, 1953 in
Belvidere. Bob worked for the US Postal Service as a
carrier and clerk until he retired in 1992. He obeyed the
gospel of Christ in 1975. He taught Bible studies for years
and remained faithful in the Church of Christ. Owned
Midwest Aerial Photography and B & H Painting. He built his
own home using his skills as a carpenter. He enjoyed nature,
history, an avid gardener, fisherman, woodworker and
artist. Served as Commander for American Legion Honor
Guard, and Vice Commander of the American Legion, Post 250,
Red Cloud, Friendship, WI. Member of the 3rd Marine
Division and NRA. Was a private pilot and won the Belvidere
Fly-In 3 times during the spot-landing and flour bombing
events, and enjoyed building model airplanes.
Survivors include wife Aloha
of Friendship, daughters Terrie-Lyn (Simon-Peter) Broughton
of Belvidere and Brenda (Rob) Willey of Roscoe, sons Thomas
of Loves Park, Kerry of Belvidere and Brian (Rhonda) of
Belvidere, grandchildren Hailee Merkel, Benjamin and Anneka
Broughton, Bryant Humphry, Joshua, Caleb and Breanna Humphry,
Taylor, Trenton and Tiara Willey and great-grandson Kai
Merkel; sister Judy (Fred) Logan of Huntingdon, TN, brother
Timothy (Joanne) Humphry of Belvidere numerous nieces and
nephews.
Preceded in death by his
parents, daughter Sherry and brother Ronald.
Funeral service 11 AM,
Saturday, May 15, 2010 in
Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave.,
Belvidere with Simon-Peter Broughton officiating. Burial
will be private. Visitation from 9 AM until time of service
in the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the
family to establish a memorial for Bob at the Wisconsin
Korean War Veterans Memorial.
