Betty Jane Jefferson, age 89, of Friendship, Wisconsin died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Moundview Memorial Hospital in Friendship, Wisconsin.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin.

Betty was born August 7, 1924 in Adams, Wisconsin to Emil and Marcia (Stowell) Griese. She married Wayne Jefferson in November of 1944 at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. They made their home in Friendship on the Jefferson family farm where they raised ten children. Betty was the Town of Adams Clerk for 48 years, retiring in 2001.

Betty enjoyed quilting, baking, taking care of her dogs, shooting pigeons with her .22, and driving her Allis-Chambers 17 tractor.

Betty was a member of the Adams County Historical Society, Happy Hour Homemakers, Mt. Repose Cemetery Association,

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Marcia Griese; husband, Wayne Jefferson; and brother, Putz Griese.

Daughter: Carla (Cary) Utterberg of Golden Valley, Minnesota
Grandchildren: Brian, Katey, Cecila, Erik, Justin, Jessica, Alicia, Alison, Max, and Sam
Great-Grandchildren: 10

    Oh the memories of those wonderful smells in your mom’s kitchen and that huge pile of bread dough and those wonderful rolls. She was a amazing lady and tough She taught my mom how to sew. I reflected back on the many happy memories shared with you, your parents, and siblings on the farm.     No words can express how sad I feel right now. Betty was such a support when I was town treasurer with her as town clerk for 20 years. We worked so well together and I enjoyed every minute learning from her. She also was a great baker and quilter. The dairy show at the fair wasn’t complete with out Betty clerking the show.
