Byron T. Adams

Byron T. Adams, age 91, died, Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Evergreen Retirement Community, Oshkosh, WI where he had been a resident for the past six years.

Byron and his wife, Margaret moved to Oshkosh from Wisconsin Rapids, WI. in 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, who died April 11, 2010; his parents, Hal H. & Vera G. Adams; his sisters, Louise Hall and Ruby Adams.
He is survived by stepsons; Gary (Leslie) Meyer of Pickett, WI, Alvin (Kathi) Meyer, Jefferson, Iowa, six grandchildren and a sister, Gloria A. Moore, Bradenton, Fl.

After graduating from high school in 1940, Byron enlisted in the Army, April 29, 1941, where he served in the finance division. After his discharge, Byron went to Washington, D. C., enrolled in college and worked odd jobs. He was a member of the Air National Guard and was called back into active duty during the Korean Was. In 1952, he returned to the Rhine-Main Airbase as a civilian and served another four years. Upon his return to the USA, Byron went to Wisconsin Rapids with a friend, fell in love with the area, and found employment at Consolidated Paper Company for 10 years. He met Margaret in 1954 and became very involved with the Democratic Party. He was appointed POSTMASTER by PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY, July 15, 1960. He and Margaret were married, July 15, 1960.
He served 20 years as POSTMASTER before retiring, Oct. 3, 1980. After he and Margaret retired, they spent many years traveling throughout the US, Canada, Mexico and Alaska. They met many friends and had a wonderful life together.
They were both very special people and will be missed. Rest in peace!

A memorial service for Byron will be held, Saturday, April 14, 2012 @ 3:00pm in the Chapel at Evergreen Retirement Center, 1130 North Westfield St., Oshkosh, WI.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Byron’s family. I did not know him well. Him and Margaret were friends of my Grandma Mary Knight and she had always spoken highly of them both.
