Carol J. List

Carol J. List, age 88, of New Haven township, passed away Friday, September 10, 2021, peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Carol was born September 11, 1932, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Chester (Jim) and Dorothy Keller. She was the oldest of three daughters. Carol graduated from Wisconsin Rapids high school in 1951. On June 2, 1967, Carol married the love of her life, Virgil J. List and together they raised 8 children, 1 together, 6 from Carol’s first marriage and 1 from Virgil’s first marriage. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great- great grandmother to over 100 descendants.

In 1981, Carol and Virgil purchased their final homestead in New Haven township and started a hobby farm mainly to raise their own food for themselves and large family. Carol’s passion was to teach her descendants to be more self-sufficient and spent her older years putting up food from her small farm. She especially loved gardening, canning, sewing, knitting, and spending time with her family. Carol was probably best known for her amazing Skip-bo playing skills, and she was often referred to as “The Skip-bo Queen”. Carol took great pride in teaching her descendants her skills of the fore-mentioned and her legacy will live on for many generations. She was a quiet, gentle soul and preferred to be more of a homebody but still had some lovely close friendships with many in the community.

Carol was proceeded in death by her parents, an infant sister Lorna, an infant son, husband Virgil List, sister Emily Drews, grandson Anthony Garza, great-grandsons James Choppi, Kevin Garza and Tyler Chenoweth.

Carol is survived by: Sons; David (Ruth) Chenoweth of Lake Mills, WI, Jerry (Joann) Chenoweth of Poynette, WI, Steve (Michelle) Chenoweth of Portage, WI, Daniel Chenoweth of Wisconsin Dells, WI, Joe (Cindy) Liszt of Pollock Pines, CA, and step-son Kim List. Daughters; Karen Coffman of Tellico Plains, TN, Rebecca (Mike) Hoth of Wisconsin Dells, sister; Anita Wilderman of Westfield, WI.
