Charles O. Dayton

Charles O. Dayton, age 89, of Big Flats, Wisconsin died Friday, February 9, 2007 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Rev. James Steinbrecher will officiate. Military rites will be offered by the Adams VFW Post #6279; the Adams American Legion Red Cloud Post #250; and the Grand Marsh American Legion Snyder-Richardson Post #273.

Visitation will be on Sunday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

Charles was born December 5, 1917 in Geneva, Illinois to Charles and Claribelle (Houston) Dayton. He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne. Charles had 29 jumps during the war in the European Theater, including on D-Day. He married Elizabeth Marie Lumbard on June 29, 1946 in Oswego, IL. Charles worked at BN in Geneva, IL for 32 years. He retired in 1983 to his home in Big Flats.

Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Charles was a member of the North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Rifles Association.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Sherman "Tug" Dayton.

Great-Grandson: Zackary Dayton of Arkdale, Wisconsin
Great-Granddaughter: Allyssa Dayton of Arkdale, Wisconsin
Granddaughter: Caroline F. Dayton of North Chicago, IL
Granddaughter: Chari L. Dayton of Arkdale, Wisconsin
Granddaughter: Malinda Baker-Scheen of Elburn, IL
Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    Elizabeth, Charlie and "Squirt" and family, I was sorry to hear of Charlie’s passing. We all appreciated how much he did for the kids at the livestock shows. He always would take time to stop and visit as well. My prayers are with your family
