Derek Robert Giessel, age 41, Arkdale, WI died unexpectedly on Wed. Dec 16, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22nd at Roseberry’s Funeral Home. Rev. John Krebs will officiate. Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin.
Friends may call at Roseberry’s on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Derek was born February 23, 1968 in Friendship WI to Ronald Robert Bob & Doneta (Renner) Giessel. He attended Adams Friendship High School and was a member of the class of 1986. Derek married Barbara Allen on October 21, 1994 in Adams, WI. This marriage was blessed with two children. Derek was a self-taught mechanic fixing many family and friends cars over the years.
Derek took great pride in being a father to Dylan and Alivia, the two most important people in his life. He shared his mechanical knowledge & excitement for all things that go with his son, Dylan and his daughter Alivia.
Derek had a passion for being behind the wheel as much as under the hood. He started with two wheelers as an avid BMX bike racer and from the age of 16 drove for Team Twisted Metal at demolition derbies in car #4U2C. With the motto of Drive it like you stole it he would have loved to race stock car or even NASCAR. Dale Earnhardt was an idol and Derek was there to witness his final Winston Cup race in Florida.
Derek will be deeply missed by his large extended family and friends. Family gatherings wont be the same without his wonderful grin and humorous one-liners.
Derek was preceded in death by grandparents, Art and Norma Renner; grandparent, Madeline Werner; grandparents, Clyde and Millie Giessel; uncle, Clyde Giessel Jr.; cousins: Damon Renner and Dustin Renner.

Derek was a great friend, the type that would drop anything he was doing to come and help. We enjoyed two great BrickYard 400 together and lots of Derbies. Derek you will be missed alot. Are hearts go out to Dylan, Alivia, and Family. R.I.P 4U2C

I remember being in a demo heat race with Derek in 1998 and can still see him coming at me with that big orange station wagon, I also enjoyed working with him at the Auto Parts store in Wis Dells.
