Edward VanMater

VanMater_scan_webEdward VanMater, age 97, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship.

Edward was born January 13, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois the son of William and Anna VanMater.  He married Evelyn Jasinski (Jasin) on April 4, 1945.

He enlisted in the United States Army on April 19, 1944 and was honorably discharged on October 20, 1945.

He held many jobs in his lifetime that included farming, construction work and the railroad.  He finally retired from the Good Year Tire Company after working 26 years.

Edward enjoyed time with his family, baseball games and his favorite pastime, watching westerns on T.V.

Preceding him in death were his parents, William & Anna VanMater; his wife Evelyn and second wife Mildred; two sons, Richard and Robert; daughter-in-law, Pamela VanMater; son-in-law, Robert LaValley; grandson, Elton VanMater; brothers, Clarence and William “Bill” VanMater; sisters-in-law, Maxine VanMater, Lorraine Lorvig, Eleanor Baider, Delores Jasin and brothers-in-law, Elvin Scott, Bill Lorvig, Bruno and Clarence Jasin.

He is survived by his children, Darlene (Ronald) Skotnicki of Oxford; Edward VanMater of Lake Moor, IL; Dorothy Bachmann of Wilmette, IL; Ronald (Annette) VanMater of Ocala, FL; and Janet LaValley of Pontiac, IL.  Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, his brother Eugene “Bud” VanMater of Friendship; and sister, Dorothy Scott of Plainfield, IL.  Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to thank the nurses, aides and staff at Villa Pines for their wonderful care and support.

Edward was very much loved and will be greatly missed.

Per Edward’s request there will be no services and internment will be private.
