Edward Warren Oakes

Edward Warren Oakes, age 85, of Friendship, Wisconsin died Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adams, Wisconsin.   Rev. John Krebs will officiate.  Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin.  Military honors will be presented by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Ed was born August 21, 1927 in Brainerd, Minnesota to Lyle and Irene (Colby) Oakes.  He served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Munda and once again during the Korean War was called to serve in the 101st Army Airborne Band.   He married Lila Bork on October 12, 1955 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adams, Wisconsin.  Ed worked at Fairbanks and Morris in Beloit, Badger Ordnance Army Ammunition Plant in Baraboo, Roberts Motors and A-F Motors where he worked as a bookkeeper, and the U.S. Postal Service from which he retired after 30 years of service.

Ed enjoyed woodworking, model railroads, golfing, bowling, snowmobiling, and spending time with his family friends.  He also played saxophone with the Larry Woodbury Band during 1950’s and 1960’s.

Ed was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adams and the VFW Post#6279.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Irene (Colby) Oakes; son, Roger Oakes; brother, James (Arlene); brother, Sidney; twin brother, Edwin; sister-in-law, Rita Robertson; and brother-in-law, Howard Bork.

Brother-in-law:  Thomas Robertson of Adams, Wisconsin
Sister-in-law:  Phyllis Bork of Adams, Wisconsin
Further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
