Esther M. Volkening, age 92, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away November 22, 2013 at the Moundview Memorial Hospital & Clinics in Friendship, Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Pastor Terri Skildum will officiate. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home. Interment will be at the South Arkdale Cemetery at a later date.
Esther was born August 5, 1921 in Barrington, Illinois to Christ and Minnie Rieke.
She married Wilbert Volkening on August 25, 1938 in Elgin, Illinois. In 1945 they moved to Arkdale where they raised their family and farmed.
Esther took great pride in her home and family. She was an excellent cook and baker who loved to entertain especially on the holidays. Esther was an avid gardener and loved her flowers and garden. She was an extremely hard worker keeping very active and staying younger than her years.
Esther was a member of the Arkdale Trinity Lutheran Church & Martha Circle, and the Strongs Prairie Community Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christ & Minnie Rieke; husband, Wilbert Volkening; daughter, Dorothy Volkening; son, David Volkening and Ten brothers & sisters

What a wonderful Aunt. I remember all the vacations our family had at your farm. Us city kids learned so much of life on the farm and gave us a truly wonderful life experience. My Mom (Aunt Verna) will be welcoming her in heaven.

We have some great memories of being at Esther’s home and having her at ours. She always added a spark to any get together that we had. We loved playing cards with her, putting up corn with her, and just enjoying her company. Our sympathies go out to the entire family. She was loved greatly and will be missed.
