Gilman J. Quimby Sr., age 82, of Big Flats, Wisconsin went to be with his Lord Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Pastor Milton Duntley will officiate. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Bancroft, Wisconsin. His six grandsons, Lewie, Dwayne, Derrick, Ryan, Jeremiah, and Jay will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home.

Gil was born March 23, 1931 in Portage County, Wisconsin to James and Victoria (Dampier) Quimby. He moved with his family to Big Flats when he was 8 years old. Gil married his teenage sweetheart Vergie Crook on October 29, 1949 in Camp Douglas, Wisconsin. In 1953 they moved to Janesville before moving to Waukesha where he worked at Waukesha Foundry Machine Shop. After 40 years, he and Vergie returned to Big Flats following retirement in 1993. Gil continued to work with his brother at Quimby’s Vegetable Barn in Big Flats.

Gil loved to play with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. One of his favorite sayings, “Spoil them and then send them home.” He also loved flowers, in particular, Pansies. Recently, he planted his own flower bed. Gil enjoyed collecting caps, with a collection of over 250 from all over.

Gil was a member of Big Flats Community Church, and a retired member of the Big Flats Volunteer Fire Department.

Gilman was preceded in death by his parents, James and Victoria Quimby; son, Leonard Quimby; and sister, Jane Peterson.
