Hazel was born September 27, 1914 in Nekoosa, Wisconsin to Albert and Minnie (Fischer) Neugart.
She graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1932. During WWII she worked at Motor Meter Guage Plant in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Hazel married Robert Machan on May 31, 1943 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Adams, Wisconsin. Together they raised their five children, Gary, Mary, Thomas, Vicki & Jeanine on the Machan family farm in Lincoln Twp. Hazel and Bob would go into town on Saturday evenings to the dances and they were on a bowling league every other Sunday at Patricks Lake. The farm was the setting for many get togethers for both family and friends.
Hazel was active in Homemakers club, St. Methodius Church, 4-H Club and the Lincoln School PTA. During the summer months Hazel was busy with gardening, freezing vegetables and meats, canning and helping the girls with 4-H cooking and sewing projects. There were meals to fix for family and the farmhands. It was not unusual to prepare meals for 20-25 people.

Bob and Hazel retired in 1973 to a home they built on 40 acres of woods and fields on Hwy J. Hazel maintained their home after Bobs passing in 1974. Her retirement activities included reading, quilting, cross stitch, crossword puzzles, traveling, volunteering at St. Joseph Catholic Church and working the election pole in Lincoln Twp. She was an avid sports enthusiast and her favorite teams were the Badgers, Packers and Notre Dame. Hazel traveled extensively through out the United States visiting with her family & friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Machan; parents, Albert & Minnie Neugart; brother, Irvin Neugart; sister, Gladys Edwards; and sister, Kathryn Lecy.
