Hilbert B. Carlson, age 83, of Arkdale, Wisconsin died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at the Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship, Wisconsin.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 09, 2013 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Pastor John Torgerson will officiate. Interment will be at the Monroe Center Cemetery, Town of Monroe, Adams County, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until to the time of service on Tuesday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home.

Hilbert was born August 5, 1929 in Strongs Prairie, Adams County, Wisconsin to Ole and Olga (Martin) Carlson. He married Arloine Aarestad on October 29, 1954 in Mason City, Iowa. They made their home in Monroe Center where Hilbert farmed and later worked for Nekoosa Edwards Paper Co. cutting pulp for many years. He also worked for the State of Wisconsin building the interstate, and at Badger Ordnance during the Vietnam War.
Hilbert started the first Polaris snowmobile dealership in 1965. He also opened Carlson’s North Star Gas Station at Hwy 21/13 in 1971. After selling the service station, he worked at many area irrigation farms until his retirement.

Hilbert enjoyed hunting and raising elk, along with other animals.

Hilbert was a member of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the North American Hunting Club, NRA, and a charter member of the Roche-A-Cri Lions.

Hilbert was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Olga Carlson; brother, Emil Carlson; sisters: Sarah (Hays) Siegler and Carol Lockerbie; sister-in-law, Mary Carlson; brother-in-law, Clifford Hays; brother-in-law, George Siegler; brother-in-law, James Lockerbie; brother-in-law, Aling Rakstang; three infant sisters; and one infant brother.

Granddaughter: Jacey Jensen of Madison, Wisconsin
Granddaughter: Calli Carlson of Madison, Wisconsin
Great-Grandson: Jayden Carlson of Marion, Kentucky
Great-Grandson: Maddox Carlson of Marion, Kentucky
Great-Grandson: Gunnar Carlson of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin

    Arlo, Gordy, Dave & Amp; Dan: I have many fond memories of Hilbert. I remember the hours we spent at the gas station talking about hunting and snowmobiles. He always enjoyed showing off his elk herd and would share some good deer hunting stories with me once in a while. During this sad time in your lives hold all those good memories close. He is at peace now and will suffer no more. He will be missed by many.
