Howard Rex McLain, age 96, of Adams, Wisconsin died Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship, Wisconsin.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 Noon on Friday, April 13, 2012 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Friendship, Wisconsin. Father James P. McNamee will officiate. Interment will be at the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin. Military honors will be presented by the Adams County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Howard was born April 29, 1915 in Town of Jackson, Adams County, Wisconsin to Louis and Nellie (Atkins) McLain. He worked in the CCC Camps in Northern Wisconsin and the C&NW Railroad prior to entering the service. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Combat Engineers in the South Pacific. Howard received a purple heart and two bronze service stars.
After returning to Wisconsin, he married Marie Edna Giese on July 18, 1944 in Watertown, Wisconsin and made their home in Adams, Wisconsin. Howard resumed working for the railroad, retiring in 1975. He then served the community as Veteran Service Officer, the Adams County Board, City of Adams Counsel, Adams County Housing Authority, and was a charter member of the Adams VFW Post #6279 where he held many offices.
Howard was a member of Veteran’s Association of C& NW Railroad Employees and Military Order of the Purple Heart.
He married Ludmilla Klein on May 15, 1993 in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Brooks, Wisconsin.
Howard’s favorite pastimes included gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Nellie McLain; wife, Marie E. McLain; grandson, Gregory T. McLain; and several brothers and sisters.

Great-Grandchild: Connor Sweeney of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin
Great-Grandchild: Alayana McLain of Portland, Oregon
Great-Grandchild: Dashel Sweeney of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin
Great-Grandchild: Maddex McLain-Heinzen of Portland, Oregon
Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
