Surrounded by loving family and friends, Joan Jeanette Klein, age 69, of Quincy Township, Adams County, Wisconsin was taken home on Friday, March 11, 2011. Joan, Joanne, Joannie, Ma, Gramma, Sis, will be remembered for her selflessness, hard work, sense of humor, telling it like it is and, above all, deep love for us all.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Friendship, Wisconsin. Father James P. McNamee will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
Cremation will follow the service with interment at the Quincy Cemetery at a later date.
Joan was born December 13, 1941 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Harry and Freida (Nicks) LaQuee. She married Kenneth J. Klein on June 13, 1959 in Adams, Wisconsin. Many described the couple as joined at the hip, and most definitely, soul mates. Joan worked at Badger Ordnance, for many years at Swiss Colony in Mauston, and in recent years worked seasonally at Northern Bay. Joan owned and operated Lakeview Café for 14 years.
Most remarkably, but not surprisingly, Joan and her husband, Ken, opened their hearts and home to foster children Pete, Tony Tucker, Tony Laurent, and Laurie. This God-ordained work prepared the way for, son, Danny and grandson, Nicholas, whom Joan recently referred to as her life.
The family appreciates the devoted care given by Judy Hiller and sister, Connie Martin, in recent days. Memorials may be directed to the Tomah Hospice Touch or Moundview Hospital Foundation, in appreciation for their support and competent care. Memorials may also be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, www.bcrfcure.org.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Freida LaQuee; sister, Martha McCauley; and step-father, Ralph Horton.

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to Kenny and family. I will never forget the kindness and hospitality that Joan extended to me, my Dad and sisters when we visited many years ago. Joan took us to the Dells and came to my Dad’s aide when she saw how taking care of 4 little girls could get out of hand. I will always remember her smile and the way she made you feel so comfortable any time we met. It was as if you picked up right where you left the last time we saw each other. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time. My deepest sympathy, Karen Sierecki Ulin
