John Paul Stoeckig

John Paul Stoeckig our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend John Paul Stoeckig, 80, lost his long battle to Parkinson’s on April 7, 2013. Born February 26, 1933, in Adams, WI, John’s strong faith empowered him to live a life of service. He was an active member of his church, wherever he lived, teaching bible study groups, singing in the choir, Stephen Ministry, and serving on council. He sought to be “salt and light” to the world. Community volunteer work in his retirement included adult literacy, community food bank, relocation of refugees, and providing rides and other services to the elderly and the infirm.In 1951 John graduated from A-F High School and then  he enlisted in the Navy where he was trained as an electronics technician, serving on a radar picket submarine in the Pacific fleet until discharge in 1955. In 1958 he took employment at Cape Canaveral, FL and worked in the exciting space program while history was being made. Ultimately he moved to Tucson, AZ with Hughes Aircraft, retiring as a technical writer. He was an avid hiker and reader. While riding the bus to Hughes/Raytheon, he read hundreds of books on diverse subjects (O.K., only a couple of dozen or so), taking copious notes of points he found interesting. His grace, generosity, wit, humor and cheerful approach to life will be remembered by us in our hearts and memories and serve as an example for us to follow. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn; daughters, Lauren, Carla and Naomi; grandchildren, Cassidy, Tyler, Corinne, Zachary, Kelsey and Jenna and two sisters, Doris (Norman) and Elly, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Bessie, and brother, Ed; one niece and two nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 29, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at New Spirit Lutheran Church, 8701 E. Old Spanish Trail, Tucson, AZ 85710, Pastor Alan Field officiating.
