Jon was born on April 9, 1968 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin to Peggy and Terry Crary. Jon was born a little premature and was so tiny his mom would say he could fit in a shoebox when they brought him home. Although small, he was mighty. Jon grew up on a dairy farm and was a hard worker, although as a kid he hated the early morning hours and was always a challenge to get out of bed. Jon loved to operate the farm machinery. One of his greatest joys was working the land and being on a tractor.
Jon attended and graduated from Weston High School. Jon was a three sport varsity athlete, football, basketball and baseball. He was awarded all-conference as running back his senior year in football. During his time in high school, he developed a lifelong friendship with his coach and mentor, Larry Villard. Besides sports, Jon loved cars. During high school, Jon restored a 1972 Cutlass Supreme. He was so proud of his car.
Jon married the love of his life, Donna Astle, in 1992 and through this union, they had two beautiful boys, Kole and Kory. Jon and Donna bought one of the Crary family farms and set about raising a family and making a life. In addition to running the farm, Jon owned and operated a successful trucking business hauling gravel from the farm’s quarry.
Jon is survived by his parents, Peggy and Terry Crary of Hillpoint; sons, Kole Crary (Abi Knuth) of Hillpoint and Kory Crary (Jenna Hanson) of Hillpoint; girlfriend, Marcia Klingbeil of Hillpoint; sisters, Jackie (Dennis) Glassburn of Waunakee, Denise (Kris) Parrish of Vermilion, Ohio, Julie (Adam) Maslowski of Oshkosh; brothers, Dan (Donna) Crary of Reedsburg and Josh (Lindsay) Crary of Hillpoint; 6 nieces, 7 nephews, one grandbaby on the way and many other relatives and friends.
At Jon’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Jon’s ashes will be spread on the land he loved. The family will notify loved ones in the future when a celebration of life is scheduled.
My condolences to the family. Such a wonderful family, my thoughts are with you during this time of loss.
Peggy, Terry, and Josh, and family:
So sorry to hear of your loss. I know how hard it is to lose a child, and how hard it is on their siblings, too, even when they are all grown up. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. May God bless you all with his comfort and peace.
I agree with Mike — that picture is the Jon that I remember. I remember coming back from my picking my mom’s casket and Jon was outside my house and wanted to tell me how sorry he was — I have never forgotten that kindness, especially from someone so young. Sending love to his family.
Josh,Lindsay, and all of the Crary family. So sorry for your loss. Our thoughts are with you.
Unfortunately I have not seen Jon for over 30 years but as a classmate in such a small class, when I heard this, it was like losing someone I saw yesterday. I will always remember Jon’s good heart and that smile on his face. RIP Jon, I am privileged to have been able to call you a friend.
I certainly appreciate the picture as that is the Jon I knew and remember best. Always full of energy and a great friend and teammate. Absolute best of times wearing the same jersey in both football and baseball. Rest well my friend. Until we meet again….

So sorry for the loss of your father your good boys I knew that the first time I met you at Butter Fest tractor pull take of yourself and your family God Bless
Kole and Kory,
I never had the pleasure of meeting your dad but I can tell you that his work ethic definitely was sent down to the two of you. 54 is just way too early to leave the planet. I hope that you two take precautions to outlast that number by decades. May he rest in peace.
