Kenneth “Sid” Duane Sidwell, age 66, of Grand Marsh, Wisconsin died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston, Wisconsin.

A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be 1- 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the American Legion Post #501 , 105 Dempsey Road, Madison, WI 53714.

Ken was born January 26, 1947 in Madison, Wisconsin to Kenneth and Mary Lucille (Kasparie) Sidwell. He graduated from Madison-East High School in 1965. Ken served in the Air Force from 1967-1972, serving as missile technician in Okinawa, Japan and Minot, North Dakota. He returned to Madison and worked for American Family as a computer programmer and development manager for 33 years, retiring in 2004.

Ken married Carol M. Becker (Wertschnig) on April 25, 1980 at Lake Edge Lutheran Church in Madison.

Ken enjoyed camping, softball, watching football, golfing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Ken was a life member of the American Legion Donald C. Severson Post #501 and the Grand Marsh Snider Richardson Post #273. Ken served as Commander for both Posts. Ken was also a member of the Grand Marsh Lions.

Ken was preceded in death by his father, his grandparents, mother and father-in-laws, and one brother-in-law.

Grandchildren: Shyla, Kiley, Jonathan Sidwell of Washington State
Grandchildren: Liam Coley of Nevada
Step-Grandchild: Kati Wertschnig of Stevens Point, WI
Brother: George (Pam) Sidwell of DeForest, WI
Brother: Milton (Barb) Sidwell of North Carolina
Sister: Rose Marie (friend Bill) Worley of North Carolina
Sister-in-law: Sally (Fred) Albertz of Johnson Creek, WI
Sister-in-law: Deanna (John) Pfeifer of Jefferson, WI
Brother-in-law: David (Ann) Becker of Moreno Valley, CA
Further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

    I was very shocked to hear of Kens (Sids) passing. He was one of those people that you think of lasting forever!
    Sid and I attended Tech school in Minneapolis together, then he and I worked together at AmFam for the next 4 years.
    Those times we very formative for both of us, working and playing together the whole time.
    I am very sad that his time has come. Please pass on my deepest condolences to all of Carol and Kens family.

    Ken was so much a part of growing up in the old neighborhood. He brought so much energy, and humor to everything we enjoyed. He will forever be the speed demon who could run down a fly ball, steal a base, animate or exaggerate our teenage exploits.
    It’s hard to believe that he has now passed on.
    I know that you and he shared many more special dreams over your years together. I’m glad that you have those to help comfort you during these difficult times.
