Larry was born July 10, 1936 in Easton, Wisconsin to Menzo Elsworth and Irma Adell (Clough) Babcock. He graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1954. Larry started his career as a gear technician at FALK Corporation in Milwaukee where he met his loving wife of 64 years, Carol J. Mihor. After 10 years in Milwaukee they moved back north to own and operate Larry’s 82 Oasis/Barrel House Inn from 1967 to 1983. He also worked at Statewide Surfacing and co-managed A-F Speedway from 1968 to 1972.
Larry loved spending time with family and the outdoors: he enjoyed fishing, trapping, deer hunting, duck/goose hunting, and trap shooting. He also liked woodworking, league bowling and shooting pool on the Thursday Night Pool League. Larry was an active member of the Easton-White Creek Lions Club since its inception in 1986 and a former member of the Tavern Hosts of Wisconsin.
Larry was community minded, serving over 20 years on the Adams County Board of Supervisors.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Menzo and Irma Babcock; and brothers, Walter and Del Babcock.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Babcock of Adams, WI; his daughters, Cheryl (Tim) Cox of Park City, IL, Sandy (Bill) Kierstyn of Adams, WI and son, Brian (Heidi Garbisch) Babcock of Friendship, WI; brother, Herb (Lois) Babcock; and sister, Pat Pietrzak.
Further survived by his grandchildren, Tracy Cox, Jason (Katelyn) Cox, Sadie (Duane) Price, Evan Babcock, Walker (Kenzie) Kierstyn, Sarena Kierstyn; great-grandchildren, Cole Lampman, Leighton Cox, Raelyn Cox, Brady Price, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
My deepest condolences to you Carol and your family. As it seems I was able to spend little of my life time with that part of my family.
I do recall many memories and lots of laughs. Larry always made me think I was a little wacked in the head or really cool!
When I was 8 he bought me a gift when I came home from the hospital. It was a 45 record called “Flip the juice to me Bruce”.
Now was that because I was wacked or cool, I think cool! Probably because all the time his feet hung over the top of the bunk beds and
they kept slamming me in the head when I went by.
At 75 years of age it still makes me laugh. Hope I can still get a smile from you when you read this. It will take some time but just think of all the happy moments. Will be thinking of you, Love Judy
Our deepest sympathy to you Brian and to all of your family. Hugs and Love
