Leland M. Thomas

Leland Mirn Thomas, age 89, of Nekoosa, Wisconsin died Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2011 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Pastor Sam Downey will officiate. Interment will be at the Mt. Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin. Military honors will be given by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Friends may call at Roseberrys on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Leland was born September 27, 1921 in Bear Creek, Wisconsin to Mirn A. and Katherine (Maples) Thomas. He attended school in Woodstock, WI. Leland married Maxine L. Dieter on March 05, 1941 in Richland Center, Wisconsin. He served in 95th Armored Field Artillery Battalion during WWII in the European Theater of War. Leland drove Gen. George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked at Platts Machine Shop in Baraboo, WI, at Badger Ordnance, American Motors, Kimberly Clark, and the power plant in Portage, WI. Leland retired from Trusion Prepack Concrete in 1978.

Leland enjoyed stock car racing, he drove a 32 Ford Coup Lucky #13, fishing, remodeling houses, and spending time with his family.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Mirn and Katherine Thomas; wife, Maxine L. Thomas; daughter, Patsy Newkirk; and nine brothers and sisters.

Daughter: Mary (John) Dobbs of Nekoosa, Wisconsin
Daughter: Kathleen (Tony) Berger of Nekoosa, Wisconsin
Son: Roger (Patty) Thomas of Warroad, Minnesota
Son: Leland Thomas of Warsaw, Missouri
13 Grandchildren, 23 Great-Grandchildren, and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
