Margaret L. Higginbotham

Margaret L. Higginbotham, affectionately known as “Miki,” peacefully passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, at the age of 93. To honor her memory, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 12:00 Noon until 4:00 p.m. at Spot in the Woods in Friendship, WI.

Margaret was born on April 2, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John and Sadie Vandenburg (nee Ramsden). After completing her education, Miki embarked on a career at Advanced Transformer, where she crossed paths with Robert J. Semrich. Their connection blossomed, leading to their marriage in the early 1950s. Throughout their married life, Miki balanced her career while raising their four children: Michael, Robert, Kurt, and Karen. In the late 1970s, she and Robert went their separate ways, and Miki eventually found love again with Aaron “Gene” Higginbotham. In addition to being a devoted wife, she played an active role in supporting Gene at his gas station while also providing care and guidance to his three boys. Miki had an extraordinary ability to make others feel like family, earning her the endearing title of “mom” from all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Upon retirement, Miki and Gene relocated to Adams County. Miki embraced a variety of interests, she enjoyed canning, expressing her creativity through ceramics, and spending time outdoors tending to her yard and garden. She cherished the tradition of Friday night fish fry outings and the pleasure of dancing.

In addition to her parents, Miki was preceded in death by both husbands, her siblings, Kathleen, Esther, Gracey, and Bob, as well as her daughter-in-law, Kathy Semrich. Miki is survived by her children: Michael Semrich, Robert (Christine) Semrich, Kurt (Brenda Saxe) Semrich, and Karen (Tom) Jundt. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Erin (Pete), Jessica, Bradley, Adam, Kristin (Adam), Nikki (Mike), Ashley, and Colton (Meganne), as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

Oh my goodness what a wonderful lady she was. I had the pleasure of taking care of her for a few hours a week to give her other caregiver a break, and I tell ya, I always looked forward when it was time to go to sit with her…rest in peace
