Martha Roberts

Martha Jane Roberts, age 94, of rural Friendship, died Sunday, October 20, 2013, at “Our House” in Wisconsin Dells.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 am at Roseberry’s Funeral Home, Friendship.    Rev. John K. Stake will officiate.  Interment will be next to her husband in Mount Repose Cemetery, Friendship, Wisconsin.  Visitation will be at Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship from 9:00 am until time of service.

Martha was born September 19, 1919 in Platteville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Roy Milton and Elsie Mae (Rawson) Strong.  She married Otto Edward Roberts on September 23, 1937 in Crown Point, Indiana.  They had two children, Floyd Edward Roberts, born 1938, Lucille Joyce Roberts, born 1940.  Martha was married to Otto (Ottie) for over 64 years until his death December 3, 2001.

Martha was a homemaker who always kept a neat house and yard.  Otto was a businessman whom she supported and assisted in his every endeavor, including doing extensive bookkeeping.  She loved animals, taking care of them, and working in the yard.  She loved to raise both racehorses and riding horses.  She and Ottie raced their horses in several states.  In their early years, Otto and Martha also raised many hunting dogs which they used and sold.

Preceding her in death were:  her parents; husband; grandson Daniel Engnath (1977); daughter Lucille (1995) and son-in-law Leonard Engnath (1979); father-in-law William Roberts; mother-in-law Elizabeth (Carlson) Roberts; and brother-in-law Otto Sipla (2010).Survivors are: son Floyd and his wife, Marilyn (Kirchner) Roberts of Friendship; grandsons William (Ivy) Roberts of Madison and Mark Engnath of Madison; granddaughters Yvette (Kurt) McGregor of Pevely, Missouri and Rhonda (Wil-Michael) Richlen of Ashwaubenon; great-grandchildren Sanja, Mitchell and Drew McGregor, Connor, Braedon, and Emma Richlen, and Rachael Roberts; step-great granddaughter Alyssa (John) Vanden Heuvel of Illinois; g-great grandson Chance Karson Smith of Pevely, Missouri; sister, Betty Jean Sipla of Liberty Manor; nephews Raymond (Lorraine) Baine of Wausau and Gregory (Patricia) Sipla of Stevens Point; and numerous other relatives and friends.
