Mary M Steffan

Mary M. Steffan, age 93, of Adams, Wisconsin passed away on March 9, 2011 at the Villa Pines Living Center in Friendship, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Roseberry’s Funeral Home in Friendship, Wisconsin. Pastor Mark Stevens will officiate. Interment will be at the Gould Rock Cemetery, Town of New Chester, Adams County, Wisconsin.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at Roseberry’s Funeral Home.

Mary was born February 8, 1918 in Rockford, Illinois to Ward and Matilda Alta (Nee Nagles) Lake. While living in Illinois Mary worked as a Nanny for a Dr. and his family. She married Fred C. Steffan Sr. on May 16, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. This Marriage was blessed with two Children, Fred C. and Bonita L.

In 1949 Mary & Fred moved to Oxford where they lived and worked on their Dairy Farm until 2001 when they retired.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Steffan Sr.; parents, Ward & Matilda Lake; brothers: Clarence, Stanley, Glenn, Arthur, Robert & Raymond; sisters: Alice Frazer, Leota Wicker & Audrey Coon.

Survivors include her son, Fred (Dorothy) Steffan of Washington; daughter, Bonita (Fred) West of Wisconsin; brother, Frank (Marion) Lake of Wisconsin; sister, Grenneth (Nels) Nelson of Wisconsin; granddaughters: Mary Ellen Zemke of Wisconsin, Virginia Lee Zezulka of Wisconsin, Laura Lynn Cory of Wisconsin & Lisa Alta Bundy of Illinois; 10 Great-Grandchildren and many great-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.

I will try to get there on my lunch break because I have to work. She is in a better place and is no longer suffering. She is at peace with her husband and my Grandpa.

I have so many memories about the farm, the rabbits, Grandpa making me bail hay when my parents were gone, learning about electric fences, watching baby cows being born, finding cats in the hay loft. I have a lifetime of memories. Thank you for being such a good friend and cousin to my Mom and Dad. Take care.
